PH-IV: DMRC Awards First Civil Contract For Tughlaqabad-Aerocity Corridor

New Delhi:

Delhi Metro’s plan to build an elevated corridor on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road on a single pillar that will have two separate corridors for vehicles and metro is one step closer to reality.

Two days after it started construction work on Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor under Phase IV, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation awarded the first civil contract for Tughlaqabad-Aerocity corridor, which is 20.2kmlong with 15 stations.

While the corridor will connect Violet Line (Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh) with Airport Express Line, the highlight of this section is a double-decker viaduct that will include the metro viaduct as well as an elevated six-lane flyover from Sangam Vihar to Ambedkar Nagar. The metro viaduct will be on the upper deck at an elevation of 18 metres, while the road flyover will be on the lower deck at 9.3 metres. The total length of the integrated structure will be 2.4km, providing a first-of-akind three-layered transport facility on this section. A 430mlong, six-lane underpass will also be constructed at Saket-G block at Mandir Marg crossing.

“Three corridors of Phase IV have so far been approved under which 61.6km of new metro lines will be constructed across three different corridors comprising 45 stations,” Anuj Dayal, executive director, corporate communication, DMRC, said.

The first civil contract for the corridor awarded on Wednesday involves construction of a metro viaduct from Sangam Vihar to Saket-G block, including four elevated stations — Sangam Vihar, Khanpur-Devoli, Ambedkar Nagar and Saket-G block.

“After construction of this stretch, the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road will be signal-free from Sangam Vihar to Saket. The work will be completed in about three years,” Dayal said.

The other two civil contracts awarded for Phase IV corridors include one for construction of 10 stations on Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor — Keshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi, Mangolpuri, West Enclave, Pushpanjali, Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Prashant Vihar and North Pitampura — and another for Maujpur-Majlis Park corridor. The latter comprises a bridge across Yamuna and an integrated elevated viaduct with a PWD flyover at the lower deck and a metro line at the upper deck from Yamuna Vihar to Bhajanpura and eight elevated stations — Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Sonia Vihar, Soorghat, Jagatpur Village, Jharoda and Burari.

Construction work under Phase IV commenced on December 30 last year at Haiderpur Badli Mor on Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor, where piling work was started in the presence of DMRC’s managing director Mangu Singh.
